In 2012, my world turned upside down when my husband was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. As he underwent treatment, I found myself grappling with the uncertainty of our future. My husband’s illness made me realize how fragile life can be. He began to worry about my financial security in case something happened to him.
Determined to alleviate his concerns and ensure my own financial independence, I re-ignited my passion for ceramics. I had always been fascinated by the process of shaping clay into functional and beautiful pieces. As I started creating again, I found solace in the therapeutic rhythm of working with clay. I learned quickly that there was joy and beauty to still be found even in the darkest hours. And to this day, the ultimate goal of every piece is to remind others of that very revelation.

With my husband’s encouragement, I decided to turn my passion into a business. Fire Creek Clay was born with the goal of providing a sustainable income for myself and ultimately, creating a legacy that would outlast us. Throughout my husband’s treatment, I worked tirelessly to build Fire Creek Clay, pouring my heart and soul into every piece. With each new creation, I felt a sense of purpose and fulfillment. My husband’s illness had sparked a fire within me, and I was determined to keep that flame burning bright.
Today, Fire Creek Clay is more than a business- it’s a testament to the power of love, resilience, and determination. Every piece I create is imbued with the same love and care that I poured into my husband’s recovery. Fire Creek stands as a reminder that even in the darkest moments, little moments of Joy can be found. Even though it has taken me a long time to put our story out there…I’m proud to share my story with you, and I hope that it inspires you to find your own passion and purpose.
A side note, my husband has now been cancer free for over ten years.
